In February 2025, the Med Trails Network held its third annual seminar in Athens, aiming to strengthen cooperation between partners, define the network’s future, and connect with new Mediterranean hiking stakeholders from Greece (Paths of Greece, Chania Trails), Tunisia (Fédération Tourisme Authentique Destination Dahar), and Lebanon (Darbessama).
Representatives from six countries—France, Greece, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Tunisia—came together to address shared challenges in the hiking sector, exchange ideas on climate change adaptation, explore ways to engage local communities, and plan the continued development of the Med Trails Network.
Among the week’s highlights was a visit to the Lavreotiki UNESCO Geopark, located 60 km from Athens, where local experts offered an immersive experience at this unique geological site and its Mineralogical Museum. Another key moment was a tour of the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, which presented a new initiative focused on preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the Cyclades.
Meetings were hosted by Paths of Greece and the French Institute of Greece, creating an ideal setting to connect with new Mediterranean partners. The program also featured a photo exhibition by Chania Trails, developed by the Region of Crete in collaboration with Paths of Greece.
Overall, the seminar reflected the network’s dynamism and its shared commitment to promoting long-distance trails throughout the Mediterranean.
