Med Trails Network

The Palestinian Heritage Trail, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association, and the Jordan Trail Association are the founding trail members, along with Tétraktys and AFRAT, of a network that we hope will grow to encompass all the Mediterranean hiking trails. The 1,825 kilometers of the existing network of trails encompass some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Mediterranean basin. In 2025, the network welcomed 10 new members reaching a number of 15, across 9 countries.

AFRAT

Founding member

AFRAT has been active for almost 60 years in the fields of training, regional development and tourism, working with local authorities, institutions and entrepreneurs, mainly in France but also internationally. A pioneering organization in the Vercors region (Eastern side of the French Alps) for the development of rural tourism, the projects supported by AFRAT mainly affect rural and mountain areas and their inhabitants. Beside development projects, AFRAT manage a training center and a guesthouse for groups, headquarters are based in an village in the Alps. Missions : (1) Encourage people to live and work in rural and mountain areas ; (2) Place individuals at the heart of the system, taking account of the area’s constraints and assets.

Jordan Trail Association

Founding member

Established as a Jordanian non-governmental organization (NGO) in July 2015, the Jordan Trail Association (JTA) aims to develop and maintain the Jordan Trail, promoting it to attract local and international tourists. The JTA also seeks to support the local communities along the trail, maximizing the potential socioeconomic benefits of increased tourism. This includes supporting the development of various local services and home-based industries that cater for the needs of hikers and adventurers. A vital goal of the JTA is to support a sustainable tourism model that conserves the natural environment and preserves the habitats along the trail.

Lebanon Mountain Trail Association

Founding member

The LMTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting Lebanon’s first national long-distance hiking trail, the Lebanon Mountain Trail (LMT), along with its side trails and network trails. The 600 km long trail crosses more than 76 towns and villages at altitudes of up to 2,073 meters above sea level.

The LMTA aims to promote the trail as a destination for rural tourism and well-being whilst conserving the natural resources and cultural heritage found along the trail. The organization supports economic development opportunities through responsible tourism, encouraged through targeted education, community mobilization and outreach initiatives.

Palestinian Heritage Trail

Founding member

The Palestinian Heritage Trail (PHT) is a non-profit community-based tourism organization that developed a hiking trail known as the “Palestinian Heritage Trail” (PH Trail). The trail extends for 500 kilometers, passing through more than 80 Palestinian localities, promoting Palestinian identity, cultural diversity, and exchange. The PHT aims to safeguard traditions and heritage, inspire storytelling, and encourage friendships based on the advancement of human values. Additionally, the organization focuses on the preservation of the surrounding environment and the community’s needs for growth and education. PHT works closely and jointly with local communities to enhance their resources and capacities, ultimately providing opportunities for a better quality of life.

Tétraktys NGO

Tétraktys is a French NGO based in Grenoble, the capital of the French Alps. Founded in 1994, it focuses on sharing Alpine expertise at an international level in the fields of heritage preservation and promotion, sustainable tourism, and shared governance. Its actions always aim to improve the living conditions of rural and mountain communities worldwide.

With 30 years of experience, Tétraktys has built a broad skill set and an extensive network of stakeholders across the Alps and its countries of intervention, enabling the association to offer its expertise to local authorities and civil society stakeholders. Tétraktys is equipped to design innovative regional projects that combine local development, innovation, and transition strategies.

Experiences across 30 countries have demonstrated that heritage can empower local communities, even the most marginalized, by restoring their voice and pride and motivating them to play an active role in local development.

Culture Routes Society

Discover Culture Routes Society, a rooftop organization dedicated to promoting, protecting, and coordinating a network of nearly 25 cultural routes across Turkey, including the iconic Lycian Way.

Through mapping historic roads, supporting small businesses along the trails, and representing routes at national and international levels, CRS strengthens cultural tourism and heritage preservation. Actively involved in Erasmus+, COSME, and British Council projects, and a proud member of the World Trails Network, CRS works to make trails accessible, sustainable, and impactful for all.

Darb Mar Charbel

Darbessama Association is a spiritual and social organization committed to solidarity and sustainable development. The association initiated and led the development of Darb Mar Charbel (DMC), Lebanon’s first long-distance pilgrimage trail inspired by the spirituality of Saint Charbel. Beyond its spiritual dimension, the trail highlights the rich natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and local traditions of the villages it crosses. DMC promotes inclusion, reflection, and responsible pilgrimage tourism, while fostering rural tourism and supporting local economies through community-based initiatives.

Federation for Authentic Tourism - Dahar Destination

The Federation for Authentic Tourism – Dahar Destination (FTADD) is a destination management organization dedicated to advancing Destination Dahar© and the Dahar Hiking Trail. It works to promote the region to the public and tourism professionals while coordinating local tourism service providers and fostering strong public–private partnerships. Acting as a bridge between stakeholders and tourism authorities, FTADD represents the region’s interests, addresses development challenges, and supports its members in improving and diversifying sustainable tourism experiences.

Paths of Greece

Step into Paths of Greece, a social cooperative enterprise dedicated to developing and enhancing hiking destinations across Greece and beyond. With over 2,000 km of trails developed nationwide, PoG also works as a tour operator for hiking trips in Greece.
Actively involved in international Erasmus+ projects and a World Trails Network member for over 10 years, Paths of Greece promotes sustainable hiking, collaboration, and long-term trail impact.

Alternative Tourism Group

Meet the Alternative Tourism Group (ATG), a Palestinian NGO founded in 1995 and dedicated to tours and pilgrimages that connect people to the history, culture, and lived realities of the Holy Land. Guided by the principles of justice tourism, ATG promotes meaningful cultural exchange, environmental protection, and economic opportunities for local communities. Through responsible travel and education, ATG works to foster understanding, dignity, and a just peace, welcoming visitors from around the world.

Rozana Association

Founded in 2007, the Rozana Association works to promote sustainable development and protect architectural heritage in rural Palestine. Through a community-based approach, Rozana strengthens local capacities, generates income, and enhances village life. Its work spans heritage preservation, trails and tours, cultural events, and partnerships, including leadership of the Palestinian Heritage Trail. By connecting visitors with landscapes, history, and living culture, Rozana supports meaningful exchange and rural development.

Siraj Center

Founded in 2005, the Siraj Center is a Palestinian non-profit dedicated to responsible and experiential tourism in the West Bank. Through community tours, home stays, interfaith pilgrimages, and cultural exchanges, it fosters meaningful connections between visitors and local communities. A pioneer in cultural travel, Siraj also develops hiking and biking experiences that celebrate the land, strengthen understanding, and support the Palestinian economy through responsible tourism.

Sustainable tourism expert specialising in long-distance hiking routes in Tunisia, with strong experience in community-based tourism, destination governance, culinary heritage valorisation, and territorial trail development, including the Grande Traversée du Dahar.

Alessandro Caponio
Professional Travel Designer and Nordic Walking Instructor from Italy (Puglia), long-distance trail enthusiast and former UNHCR charity cyclist.

Marie Poulain
Geographer specialized in mountain tourism (University of Geneva), with extensive experience in trail design and management in the Alps and Mediterranean regions.
